شب و مه (به فرانسوی: Nuit et brouillard) یک فیلم کوتاه مستند 1956 در فرانسه است. ده سال پس از آزادسازی اردوگاه های کار اجباری آلمان به کارگردانی آلن رنس ساخته شد. این عنوان از برنامه آدم ربایی و ناپدید شدن Nacht und Nebel (به آلمانی “شب و مه”) گرفته شده و توسط آلمان نازی مصوبه شده است. این مستند ضمن توصیف زندگی زندانیان در اردوگاه ها ، محوطه های متروکه آشویتس و ماژدانک را در لهستان اشغالی تأسیس کرده است. شب و مه با همکاری فیلمنامه نویس ژان کایرول ، یکی از بازماندگان اردوگاه کار اجباری ماوتهاوزن-گوزن ساخته شد. موسیقی این موسیقی متن توسط هانس آیزلر ساخته شده است.

رسنی در اصل در ساخت فیلم مردد بود و پیشنهاد ساخت آن را رد کرد تا اینکه کایرول برای نوشتن فیلمنامه قرارداد منعقد شد. فیلم به طور کامل در سال 1955 فیلمبرداری شده است و از عکسهای معاصر اردوگاه ها به اضافه فیلم های انیمیشن تشکیل شده است. رسنا و کایرول ساخت فیلم را به دلیل گرافیکی بودن و موضوع آن بسیار دشوار دیدند. فیلم با سانسورگران فرانسوی که از شلیک یک افسر پلیس فرانسوی در فیلم ناراضی بودند و همچنین سفارت آلمان در فرانسه که تلاش می کرد اکران فیلم در جشنواره کن را متوقف کند ، دچار مشکل شد. شب و مه با تحسین منتقدان آزاد شد و امروز نیز مورد ستایش بسیار قرار می گیرد. برای یادآوری “وحشت جنگ” از سال 1990 در سراسر کشور در تلویزیون فرانسه پخش شد.

Night and Fog (French: Nuit et brouillard) is a 1956 French documentary short film. Directed by Alain Resnais, it was made ten years after the liberation of German concentration camps. The title is taken from the Nacht und Nebel (German for “Night and Fog”) program of abductions and disappearances decreed by Nazi Germany. The documentary features the abandoned grounds of Auschwitz and Majdanek established in occupied Poland while describing the lives of prisoners in the camps. Night and Fog was made in collaboration with scriptwriter Jean Cayrol, a survivor of the Mauthausen-Gusen concentration camp. The music of the soundtrack was composed by Hanns Eisler.

Resnais was originally hesitant about making the film and refused the offer to make it until Cayrol was contracted to write the script. The film was shot entirely in the year 1955 and is composed of contemporary shots of the camps plus stock footage. Resnais and Cayrol found the film very difficult to make due to its graphic nature and subject matter. The film faced difficulties with French censors unhappy with a shot of a French police officer in the film, and with the German embassy in France, which attempted to halt the film’s release at the Cannes Film Festival. Night and Fog was released to critical acclaim, and still receives very high praise today. It was re-shown on French television nationwide in 1990 to remind the people of the “horrors of war”.
